Abstract
History is usually told by the victors. In many cases, this story does not have the full truth of the losers. For Pablo Escobar, his story is always told with him being a villain and never mentioning the positive impact he made in Colombia. The history of a person should be told in full, to prevent the same mistakes as the past. By understanding all of Escobar’s life, the easier it is to understand how he gained and sustained his power in Colombia. The power, which prevented the U.S. and Colombian government from taking action, could be prevented in the future.
Biography
My name is Hannah Toney. I am a senior at Wakefield School. For my senior thesis, I choose Pablo Escobar. I was fascinated by Pablo’s life and image in Colombia, after watching Narcos on Netflix. Usually, Pablo’s name is connected with negative words like villain, murder, and drug lord. After watching that series on Netflix, I realized there is a population in Colombia, that believes Pablo was a hero. The hero side of Pablo fascinated me because usually a killer, who killed innocents, is not named a hero. For my thesis, I tried understanding Pablo in a different light than I had done before.
